Selection Sharing
Ways to Share a Selection
Section titled “Ways to Share a Selection”When you select text on any web page, you have three ways to share just that selection:
Floating Button
Section titled “Floating Button”A small button appears near your selection. Click it to instantly share the selected text to your default endpoint.
The button auto-hides when you clear the selection.
Keyboard Shortcut
Section titled “Keyboard Shortcut”Press Ctrl+Shift+K (or Cmd+Shift+K on Mac) to share the current selection.
You can customize this shortcut in your browser’s extension settings (chrome://extensions/shortcuts).
Context Menu
Section titled “Context Menu”Right-click selected text → Share selection to Context Bro.
What Gets Shared
Section titled “What Gets Shared”When sharing a selection, the {{selection}} and {{selectionHtml}} template variables are populated with the selected text. The {{content}} variable still contains the full page content.
If you want a template that only sends the selection, use the Selection Only preset:
{ "selection": "{{selection}}", "sourceUrl": "{{url}}", "sourceTitle": "{{title}}", "clippedAt": "{{date}} {{time}}"}Full Page vs Selection
Section titled “Full Page vs Selection”| Variable | With selection | Without selection |
|---|---|---|
{{content}} | Full page content | Full page content |
{{selection}} | Selected text (Markdown) | Empty string |
{{selectionHtml}} | Selected text (HTML) | Empty string |
Both {{content}} and {{selection}} are always available — your template decides which to include.
